FG to establish 17 manufacturing institutes

The federal government is to establish 17 Advance Manufacturing Technology (ATM) Institutes to boost industrialisation, the Director General of the NASENI has said.


The Director General of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Prof. Olusegun O. Adewoye, says that about 80 percent of the manufacturing activities all over the world are based on advance a manufacturing technology, saying Nigeria should not be different.

Prof. Adewoye said seven of the institutes will be provided by NASENI and the remaining eight will be under the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) tertiary institutions.

The Director General said while taking the delegate of the African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology round the facilities at the Idu headquarter of the Agency that the Virtual Manufacturing Laboratory is the nerve centre of the activities of the Agency.

He said there is a High Power Computing Centre (HPC) at the headquarter, while such centre would be established in Nnewi and Ilesha soon, saying that the HPC are super Computer made up of eight blade servers, which consist of 1 head node and 7 cluster nudes which can be used for complex analysis in the field of science and engineering.

Prof. Adewoye said the Agency is currently developing an integrated Virtual Private Network (iVPN) through which researchers and Universities who had been granted access through pass codes can dial-in into the facilities available at the headquarters and the eight institutes.
