Norway advances, Nigeria, Argentina ready to pack home

SHENYANG, Northeast China, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — No dark horses popped up to upset formidable rivals and Norway became the first qualifier for knockout stage after two rounds of women’s soccer matches in the Beijing Olympics.

Nigeria and Argentina, both underdogs in their respective groups, face dim prospect to go further in the games and will fight for dignity in their last group matches.

Saturday’s games features plain results as traditional powerhouses such as Brazil, Germany, Norway and the United States all beat their opponents, while host China settled for a draw with Canada.

After two rounds of matches, the teams are all starting to calculate their chances of booking a berth in the next stage.
