The visiting Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Monday solicited a stronger bilateral relationship between his country and Nigeria, stressing that the two countries shared many things in common.

The prime minister, who addressed a joint session of the National Assembly, said both India and Nigeria had been having meaningful relations since the past 50 years, adding that it was high time the two countries tightened such relationship to meet the challenges of the millennium.

He stressed that India would be looking forward to a progressive partnership with Nigeria in ensuring economic growth and advancement of the cause of democracy within the two countries.

India, he said, recognised Nigeria as its largest business partner in Africa and had even been desirous of expanding its trade relationship and business diversification in the country.
