Why Yar'Adua will run a corrupt-free govt – Akinjide

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Richard Osuolale Akinjide (SAN), a political juggernaut who belongs to the first generation of SAN, took a critical look at the last April elections, the on-going political gerrymandering and what the Yar’Adua administration may look like.He spoke with IDOWU ADELUSI. How would you assess the last elections vis-a-vis comments by some people that the elections should be cancelled and interim government inaugurated?
Looking at it as a poll, and I repeat as a poll, the last elections were not as bad as some people are claiming it to be. I concede that in some constituencies or some states there were malpractices, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo admitted that. But to condemn the whole elections as being fraudulent or as being bad is to be dishonest. In all elections, in all democracies, you can never get 100 percent clean election. And we copied the American system, and we, also followed European method of democracy the Australian, Japanese systems. Now, electoral laws of this country are not original.
