Delegates Get 2 Weeks to Submit Memoranda

Attempts to bar
media fail

Delegates to the National Political Reform Confe-rence (NPRC) were yesterday
handed a two-week deadline within which to submit their written memoranda to the
conference secretariat. Non-delegates are, however, expected to turn in their
memoranda in four weeks time.

And as the national dialogue entered its second day yesterday after it resumed
from a one-week adjournment, Secretary of the conference, Rev. Father Matthew
Kukah, said that the secretariat is gradually, but steadily finding its bearing.

But attempts to bar the media from live coverage of proceedings failed, as
delegates voted overwhelmingly against the suggestions.

Chairman of the Conference, Justice Niki Tobi, had following passionate pleas
from some delegates that the one-week within which they are expected to submit
memoranda was short, approved an additional one week for delegates and gave a
deadline of four weeks for those outside of the conference willing to submit
