Obasanjo, the Senate and the Solgas story
…Federal Government intervenes

At a time when it appeared as though the Federal Government of Nigeria is
poised to ensure that SOLGAS, contracted to bring about the revitalisation of
the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, delivers, the Senate Committee on Power and Steel,
headed by Senator Francis Arthur Nzeribe, comes up with a report which claims
that Solgas cannot handle the contract.  However, information avaliable to
Vanguard suggests that there may be more to the Senate Report than the eye can
see.  Already, Seun Oyefeso, the vice-chairman of Solgas and acting chief
executive of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, has already charged back that the
Federal Government could proceed on an investigation to unearth the truth about
the level of work going on at the Steel complex.  And the Federal Government is
said to be moving in. This report presents the issues in perspective.
