GOVERNOR Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday unveiled the master plan of the Lagos Energy City project estimated to cost $1.8 billion, about N228 billion. While unveiling the project at an occasion  held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos , Fashola expressed the commitment of his administration towards infrastructural renewal in the state.

The governor explained that the project, conceived and signed, last year, is a private sector initiative in collaboration with the state government to create a big platform for oil and gas players in the energy sector.
He said the project, sited on 170 hectares of land in Badagry Local Government Area of the state, has the capacity to generate 130 megawatts of power electricity to facilitate efficient operation of the energy city, even as it would also generate over 2,000 jobs for the people of the state.

According to him, Zone One of the project would be for tourism and exhibition, where African architecture and arts would be glaringly displayed. “It will be tagged African village,”  he explained.

Zone Two, according to him, will be the main energy city and  will comprise of 25-room-office building, 500 units of family houses, 678 town houses, 1500-two-bed units, an international school, a fire station, a sports complex and network of internal transportation system.

He explained that the offices would spread over 800 square metres of land. Fashola added that the project was one of the initiatives to make  Lagos a model for Africa that would be able to compete favourably with other developed cities of the world, noting that Lagos is the third largest city in the world. While assuring of an efficient transportation system, he said plans had reached advanced stage to expand the ever busy Lagos Badagry Expressway into ten lanes.
