Ayodeji Omotade Vs. British Airways - By Reuben Abati
April 15, 2008 | 22 Comments
Readers of Omotade's story, which he tells with transparent pain and agony have been asked to send protest comments to the CEO of British Airways, amid nationalistic calls for the boycott of British Airways by Nigerian passengers. It is strange that more than a week later, there has been no response from British Airways to this public relations crisis on its Lagos route.

Of Looters, Leaders And The EFCC List
July 13, 2009 | 7 Comments
However, I’d like to let Mrs Farida Waziri and the EFCC know that Nigerians are not impressed with this list of 56 mostly minor rogues (the names of such people as Olabode George, Orji Kalu, Iyabo Obasanjo, and some foreigners notwithstanding) stealing only N243 billion – less than £1 billion). There should be more important names on that list; the list is much longer and the amount is much, much more.

The Trials And Tribulations Of A Leader
March 23, 2009 | 5 Comments
“FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday vehemently declared that he was not corrupt and that he was ready to face trial if found culpable of corruption”.

My views and opinions on this outburst by our former president is that we should take him up on his offer to subject himself to a probe. He has thrown down the gauntlet to the authorities. And in fairness to him and to Nigerians, let Obasanjo prove to the world that he himself, personally, was not corrupt. It is the least he...

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is wanted in the U.S. for child kidnapping as well as delinquency in court-mandated child support fees. According to court documents obtained by Saharareporters, Senator Obasanjo-Bello was declared wanted by U.S. District Court Judge Charles T.L. Anderson for kidnapping and stowing away her son after another court had awarded custody to her estranged husband.

Exit Ribadu? - Essay By Wole Soyinka
December 28, 2007 | 5 Comments
I can only hope that Benazir Bhutto’s followers will forgive me for saying this, but the news of Nuhu Ribadu’s removal from the anti-corruption Nigerian organisaton known as the EFCC will have, in all likelihood, a far more devastating impact on the psyche of the Nigerian nation than the deadly event that now threatens to further destabilize the tortured nation known as Pakistan, through the assasination of her democratic front runner, Benazir Bhutto. Let me pause here...

Okiro Confirms EFCC's Ribadu's Exit
December 27, 2007 | 5 Comments
INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police, Mr Mike Okiro, yesterday confirmed the removal of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying his removal is not an attempt to ground the war against corruption.

MONDAY QUARTERBACKING - The Interesting Case Of MENDing Nigeria (by Mobolaji Aluko)
July 7, 2009 | 3 Comments
As a one-time avid chess-player and local champion myself, I must say that I enjoyed Olusola Osineye's essay titled "The End Game: MEND Versus Federal Republic Of Nigeria " (reproduced below), in which he used the imagery of chess to analyze the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta MEND's situation up to date, and how it might close out the end-game.

A Rebel In The House Of Oduduwa - By Dele Momodu
January 21, 2008 | 3 Comments
These are not the best of times for the House of Oduduwa. Strange things are happening that rubbish the cherished memories of the progenitor of Yoruba, one of the most sophisticated races on earth. In education, style and fashion, elegance, culinary expertise, sharp intellect, hard-work, culture, integrity, wisdom, entertainment, enjoyment and many aspects of human endeavour, the Yoruba can never be found wanting

Debt Forum: Another Round Of Foreign Loans?
October 5, 2007 | 3 Comments
An indication that the Federal Government may soon embark on another binge of foreign borrowings deserves thorough scrutiny. The fresh foreign loans, according to the Finance Minister, Dr. Usman Shamsudeen, are required to help in rapid upgrading of the nation’s infrastructure. New power plants, roads and railway projects are to be implemented with the loans.
