The NEWS editor joins Ekiti senatorial race

  • Odunayo Ogunmola

March 8, 2010

The Managing Editor of The NEWS magazine, Mr Babafemi Ojudu, at the weekend formally declared his intention to run for the Senate from Ekiti State in the 2011 general election on the platform of the Action Congress (AC).

Ojudu, who intends to contest the Ekiti Central Senatorial District seat, expressed regrets that Ekiti State presently lacks quality representation in the National Assembly with the present crop of federal legislators from the state.

The senior journalist, who has put in 26 years into media practice, was accompanied by hundreds of AC members from his Ado-Ekiti Ward 8 to the state party secretariat where he was presented to the state executive committee of the party.

The state AC Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, who led other party leaders to receive Ojudu, said the party offers the best platform for aspirants to express interest to offer selfless service to the people.

The senatorial aspirant, who played a prominent role in the fight against the dictatorship of the Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha dictatorships, urged Ekiti people to always “send their first eleven to the National Assembly so as not to lose out in the scheme of things in the Nigerian project.”

He said the mistake made by activists after they won the battle to enthrone democracy was to leave the political arena for “anti-democratic elements,” adding that it was high time pro-democracy activists staked their claims in the politics of Nigeria.
