Sex scandal: OBJ’s family faults son’s claim

Kola Adepoju, Abeokuta

The family of former president Olusegun Obasanjo (the Olusomi’s) as well as Chief Femi Majekodunmi yesterday described his son, Gbenga Obasanjo’s allegation that his father slept with his wife as a blatant lie.

Their reaction came even as prominent kinsmen of Chief Obasanjo, especially his relations declined comment on the issue, saying it is non cultural in Yorubaland, to speak on matter of such biological magnitude.

But baring the mind of the Olusomi family on the issue, the former president’s cousin who also doubles as the Jagunmolu of Owu, Chief Shehu Oladunjoye said Gbenga’s allegation was “spuriously baseless”.

The nation was jolted late last week following allegation by Gbenga that the due of his father and father-in-law, Otunba Alex Onabanjo committedd incest with his wife Mojisola at the peak of marital crisis rocking his home.

Reacting in a telephone chat with our correspondent, Chief Oladunjoye absolved Obasanjo of the accusation, saying “as a person I have known in and out several years, Baba (Obasanjo) will never and never, I repeat never do that kind of a filthy thing”.

He stressed that though “Owu people are righteously arrogant and prudent, no Owu man will ever sleep with his daughter not even a core Owu leader and Generalissmo in person of Baba (Obasanjo) that will stoop so low to do such a thing”.

Oladunjoye who is the immediate-past chairman of transition committee of Ewekoro council area urged Nigerians to disregard Gbenga’s allegation, saying “the boy is only crying wolf where there’s none”.

Asked whether the family would meet over the issue, Chief Oladunjoye flared up, declaring “meet over what? There is nothing to meet over. Meet over Gbenga white lie? Never! “ko soro nibe” meaning it’s a non-issue”.

Also reacting, Chief Obasanjo’s political son, Chief Majekodunmi who is the Bagbile of Egbaland and Baasegun of Ibadanland said Gbenga allegation is unbelievable.

“I don’t believe it. It should just be ignored. I would have loved to say no comment because there’s no iota of truth in the matter”, he said.

However some other prominent kinsmen of the former president who were approached for comment avoided the issue like a plague when it was raised.

But those who mustered courage to speak on the development said the action was uncultural and demeaning.

Among those who spoke were Chief Dayo Abatan, Senator Femi Okunrounmu and Chief Bode Odugbesan as well as two Owu high chiefs who did not want their names in print.

Also Otunba Onabanjo could not be reached for comment.

When a call was put to him yesterday, it was received by an answering machine which simply replied”, sorry I’m unavailable, please leave your message”.
